Unplanned Pregnancy
An unplanned pregnancy can feel overwhelming and frightening. Our team of doctors have a great deal of experience in providing information and helping people make decisions about their options at our clinic, including discussing options such as abortion, adoption or parenting.
We can offer medical abortions of up to 9 weeks of pregnancy through our clinic, including via telehealth where required, and can provide referrals for abortions at later gestations or for surgical options. We can provide referrals for the ultrasound and blood tests you will need prior to a medical or surgical abortion.
We are committed to providing access to these essential services and support for people who need it. We are very passionate about supporting your choices, enabling access to pregnancy options and support, and advocating for reproductive rights.
We’re a welcoming, judgement free practice where you can feel truly heard and supported.
You can book with either a doctor or a nurse, depending on your circumstances. Our nurses provide counselling and information, as well as initial assessments for medical abortions. An appointment with a doctor will be required to receive the prescriptions needed for a medical abortion. If you have questions about the booking or appointment process, please call our friendly reception staff on 02 4092 8000.

Confirming Pregnancy
To confirm a potential pregnancy, there are several methods available. You can start by purchasing a home pregnancy test from a local pharmacy or supermarket. This test detects a hormone present during pregnancy and can be taken from the day your period is expected. Follow the instructions carefully.
Another option is consulting your doctor for a urine or blood test. A blood test may detect pregnancy a few days earlier than a urine test. It’s crucial to seek medical advice promptly if pregnancy is suspected.
Reactions to Unplanned Pregnancy
Unplanned pregnancies often evoke a mix of emotions and thoughts, which is entirely normal. Even if the pregnancy was unexpected, it may still be desired. Various factors can influence your feelings about an unplanned pregnancy. If uncertain, remember that support is available.
The decision-making process might be challenging and may lead to conflicting emotions such as anxiety, fear, concern, joy, or excitement. It’s essential to acknowledge that these feelings are valid, and there’s no right or wrong way to feel in such situations.
Exploring Available Options
Upon confirming pregnancy, there are several choices:
- Parenthood: You may choose to raise the child, either with a partner or as a single parent. Seeking guidance from your doctor is advisable to understand the next steps.
- Adoption: Adoption transfers all legal rights and responsibilities to the adoptive parents.
- Foster Care or Kinship Care: If unsure about adoption but unable to care for the child, temporary solutions like foster care (temporary care by another family) or kinship care (raising the child within extended family) can be considered.
- Abortion: Abortion terminates the pregnancy. Depending on the gestation period, it can be done via medication or surgical procedures. Consulting a doctor for detailed discussions is crucial.
Regardless of your chosen path, we offer unbiased and non-judgmental support and information. Feel free to schedule an appointment with our specialists for further assistance.
